Taylor Jones runs for area kids

Taylor Jones, an Oregon-bred 3-year old race horse, has been selected by Portland Meadows as "The People's Horse." The horse will be running to benefit local youth programs. Portland Meadows will match every dollar earned by Taylor Jones this season up to $10,000 and donate that amount at the end of the season to the Bald Faced Truth Foundation.

$44,000 raised for local kids

Portland's 95.5-FM "The Game" hosted an auction and BATTLE OF THE NETWORK STARS eating contest at Safeway in the Pearl District. Donors pledged more than $44,000 in auction bids and donations. The funds will be dedicated to helping local kids gain access to activities that have been affected by budget cuts.

Fox 12 sports anchor Matt Smith walked off the champion of the watermelon eating contest, defeating the sports anchors from KGW (Adam Bjaranson), KATU (Craig Birnbach) and KOIN (Dan Christopherson).

With your assistance the Bald Faced Truth Foundation awarded grants in the last year that helped more than 5,000 kids who participate in arts, music, education and athletics. A grant sent 157 kindergarteners at Barnes Elementary on a field trip that was canceled by the school district due to lack of transportation funds.

The Foundation helped a single mother in Salem who was cash-strapped unable to pay for her two children to attend summer drama camp. Also, two fourth grade boys who could not afford music-instrument rental fees were awarded grants to purchase trumpets.

The foundation awarded Milwaukie High School a grant that covered the purchase of sports equipment for the Physical Education courses. Numerous grants have also been issued on behalf of individual students thatpaid rising participation fees in soccer, football, basketball, equestrian. With your assistantce we also funded an after-school PE program at Sacramento Elementary School.

Among other grants issued, The Bald Faced Truth Foundation also awarded a grant to De La Salle North Catholic High School. The funds will be used to pay for uniforms, sports equipment, venue fees and referee salaries in both boys and girls athletics. Most of the students come from families that live below the poverty line.
